In general, pycnogenol constitutes compounds like procyanidins, bioflavonoids (taxifolin, monomers, catechin, epicatechin, dimers of catechin, oligomeric procyanidnins and epicatechin,) and organic acids ( such as ferulic acid and caffeic acid). These constituents grant pycnogenol very powerful anti-oxidant properties. Along with this, pycnogenol also helps fight infections, binds collagen to elastin and helps in vasodilating the blood vessels by releasing endothelial nitric oxide. Researchers have also shown the benefits of pycnogenol in keeping the cardiovascular diseases, skin problems, cognitive functional disorders, diabetes, asthma, allergic reactions and menstrual disorders at bay.
