Over half of the world population of men and women have dry skin and have learned to deal with it. But why should you have to “learn to deal” with it when you can heal it? There are many known reasons and causes of dry skin and why we have it. Causes include weather, temperature of our showers, central heat and air conditioning, and soaps that are full of harsh chemicals. How are these causes associated with dry skin? The weather has a lot to with dry skin with the cold, dry air of winter being the hardest on our skin. Winter weather will make dry skin worse than it was before. This is due to the temperature and humidity levels plummeting. Hot weather will do the same, if you live in desert climates, where the outside temperature may reach higher than 100 degrees and the humidity level may drop to less than 15 percent, your skin will become dry. The temperature of our baths and showers will also cause dry skin. The hotter the water is the drier your skin may appear. With the shower water we use having high levels of chlorine our skin begins to soak it in. Swimming will have the same affect on your skin. Using central heat and air conditioning will reduce the humidity in the air in your home, thus causing dry skin. Soaps that are full harsh chemicals will strip lipids and water that your skin needs. To reduce dry skin, you should take lukewarm showers instead of using hot water. Also, use an unscented lotion after you take a shower, applying the lotion while the skin is still wet will help the skin to absorb the lotion easier and faster. Using a humidifier will also help. By placing a humidifier in each room of the house, you will notice healthier skin with in a few days. Remember to keep your skin covered in the winter months and protected in the summer months. Using lip balm will help reduce dry chapped lips, keeping your lips healthy and kissable.
